A BRIGHT DIAMOND I thought and thought About how I would weave him into a poem But dear Lord he’s too crass for poetry I would dream of tall, dark and handsome Of panache and smooth elegant flirting And Lord sent me tall, dark and handsome Of the roughest, brashest quality Tsk But underneath the cloak His soft gentle heart lay hidden He was a rough diamond One in need of refinement Ain’t nobody tell me it ain’t easy polishing a diamond I cut myself to pieces
And the diamond caught me in its sparkle
